Equestrian Trails of Fairmount Park
For the experienced rider as well as the novice, miles of marked trails throughout the park
If you think Philadelphia and horse back riding are mutually exclusive, think again. The Fairmount Park system has a number of scenic horse trails and open cross-country terrain for every class of equestrian.
Discover the trails throughout Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park specifically designed for horseback riding. The network of trails that snakes through the city’s enormous park system are not only long, but varied: steep and wooded in the Wissahickon, flat and grassy in Pennypack, or scenic mixed with urban in the winding Cobbs Creek trails. You’ll need your own horse, as well as a way to trailer them in to one of several designated parking areas.
COME PREPARED
On the upper trails of the Wissahickon Valley and Pennypack, horseback riding requires a permit. The trails are not paved and require extensive maintenance, and permit fees offset those costs. Contact the park for more information.
