Outsider Tip
Vineyards are very sensitive to weather — each one has its own "micro-climate." Crossing Vineyards uses a computerized weather station to record information on rainfall, temperature, dates of frost and hours of sunshine — thereby building a database of information about its own, site-specific micro-climate.
Technology meets tradition at this innovative and relatively new vineyard, located on a 200-year-old estate in Bucks County. It's less than a mile from the place where George Washington famously crossed the Delaware during the Revolutionary War.
Vintner Tom Carroll, Jr. brings sustainable growing techniques to Bucks County, and seeks to produce handcrafted wines which embrace the region's soil and climate.
COME PREPARED
The winery is open daily from noon to 6 p.m. Stop by for a tasting, tour and pick up a few bottles in the gift shop.
In addition to wine tastings (no appointment needed), Crossing offers private tastings, wine appreciation classes, winemaker’s dinners, and seasonal vineyard walk-arounds. Call for more information.
DON'T MISS
Crossing also offers fun classes, like Wine for Dummies. Check the website for a schedule. It's best to reserve your spot in advance.
