Outsider Tip
Typically, leaders form car pools at the gathering point, for trails as far as the Poconos, or Jersey Shore. Hikers reimburse the driver a small amount for gas.

The motto for this informal club, in existence for more than 50 years, is “every Sunday rain or shine.” Summer is good for short hikes to the lake for swimming.

Each week, Batona schedules a difficult trip for advanced hikers as well an easy hike, which beginners and families can easily enjoy. Hike leaders are committed to be at the start regardless of conditions.

The group also organizes backpacking trips and canoe outings as well as overseas hiking vacations to places as far away as Scotland and Costa Rica.
