Outsider Tip
Look for this triathlon to become a qualifying event for the U.S. Olympic trials.
Race for a Cause
The event benefits the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Oncology Department, Philadelphia’s Police Athletic League and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through their Team in Training program.
The Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon has made a serious splash in the multi-sport world, becoming a top-rated, sell-out event in just its second year. The Olympic-distance race, which features a $13,500 purse, split evenly between men and women, takes athletes through the beautiful trails of Fairmount Park and completes the swim in the slow-moving waters of the Schuylkill River.
New this year are two Saturday events, a sprint distance triathlon and a kids duathlon. A post race celebration includes music, food, beverages and massage therapy.
COME PREPARED
The start/finish area and the transition area will be located just off of Martin Luther King Drive, near the base of Black Road — it is a beautiful part of Fairmount Park, complete with statues, trees and grassy fields.
DON'T MISS
Look for the festive pre-race expo at Memorial Hall in Fairmount Park, with mandatory check-in on Friday and Saturday.
