William Strickland
One of the foremost architects of the Greek Revival style
William Strickland (1788-1854) was one of the country’s foremost Greek Revival architects. His work combined the elegance of Greek architecture with the practical requirements of new public buildings.
His competition-winning design of the Second Bank of the United States catapulted him to prominence, and led to the design of many other significant public buildings in Philadelphia, as well as the Tennessee State Capitol Building in Nashville.
