The Experience
If you want to see the most thrilling dance concerts in Philadelphia, this is the place to be. Since its inception, this was the only series in Philadelphia in which you could see Bella Lewitsky, Eliot Feld, David Parsons or Bill T. Jones. MOMIX and Pilobolus rotate their appearances here annually. River North Dance Chicago, Hubbard Street and Doug Varone appear regularly.
Its presentations of international companies, like Grupo Corpo Brazilian Dance Theater, Canada’s O Vertigo, Japan’s Sankai Juku and The Australian Dance Theater, elicit deafening roars from the audience. Dance Celebration’s NextMove series brings us edge with groups like David Parker & Bang and Ralph Lemon and strongly supports local companies like the beyond-salsa company, Merián Soto's Pepatián.
History
Randy Swartz created a dance series at the Walnut Street Theatre in 1972 and moved it to Annenberg Center when it evolved into Dance Affiliates in 1983. Since then, Swartz has searched the world to bring in 124 dance companies and 22 soloists and commissioned more than a dozen works that have toured internationally.
