More Information
Frida Kahlo also features nearly 100 photographs of Kahlo with such notable figures as Leon Trotsky, Surrealism founder André Breton and Kahlo's husband, Mexican muralist Diego Rivera.
Combined with her confessional self-portraits, the photographs reveal the life of an extraordinary — and complex — female artist.
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is this Kahlo exhibition's only East Coast stop!
The Exhibition
Filled with painstaking detail, powerful symbolism and unbridled passion, the Frida Kahlo exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of Art celebrates the beloved Mexican artist with an extraordinary collection of paintings and photographs.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the artist's birth, Frida Kahlo presents more than 40 works by the iconic painter, many of which are being displayed in the U.S. for the first time. The exhibition is the first major U.S. exploration of Kahlo's work in nearly 15 years.
Generally small in scale, Kahlo’s distinctive, jewel-like paintings are filled with intense personal reflections and Surrealist takes on love, family and Mexican life. Riddled with a handicap throughout her life, Kahlo spilled her life onto the canvas — and inspired generations of art lovers long after her death.
