PHILADELPHIA, April 1, 2005 - Today, short
getaways, in the form of weekend retreats and day trips, are more
popular than ever. Philadelphia day spas and salons are on top of
the trend, offering clients a variety of luxurious customized
services designed to refresh both body and spirit, from a couple's
massage to hot stone therapy and deep tissue reflexology.
The region is home to dozens of day spas and salons offering the
latest in body treatments, relaxation therapy and beauty services.
Here is just a sampling:

Salons Off the Beaten Path
- Closet Fever, in the burgeoning neighborhood
of Northern Liberties, is far from a typical salon. Not only can
clients leave the shop with a happening haircut, they can also take
home a funky shirt, a new bracelet or a cool piece of artwork. At
the center of the 1,400-square-foot hotspot is a DJ station
constructed by owners JC Mazza and Kristy Lee, featuring spinners
like Todd Damon, Rahsaan and Reno. 707 N. 2nd Street, (215)

- Beehive Hair Salon, a funky, retro shop in the
Fairmount section of Philadelphia, mixes an old-fashioned
barbershop with down to earth retro chic. Co-owners Amy May and Peg
Shaw designed the two-chair salon to be inviting and
unintimidating, unlike many upscale establishments. Don't be
surprised to see the partners' dogs, Mac and Molly, relaxing in
front of the faux fireplace. Shiatsu massage is included in the
menu of beauty services. 2319 Fairmount Avenue, (215) 235-HIVE
