LOGAN SQUARE AND ART MUSEUM AREA HIGHLIGHTED IN PHILLY TOURISM CAMPAIGN
GPTMC Promotes Local Neighborhoods On uwishunu Blog, In Video And In Tourism Advertising

PHILADELPHIA, September 12, 2007 - Local favorites in Logan Square and the Fairmount/Art Museum area are highlighted in uwishunu™ (as in “you wish you knew”), a tourism campaign created by the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC), funded by the City of Philadelphia and supported by City Councilperson Darrell Clarke and his colleagues to show off the city from the inside out. On the insider blog uwishunu.com, locals share under-the-radar scoop on cool things to do in their Philly neighborhoods. Favorites featured on the blog then reappear in uwishunu’s advertising. Additionally, the seventh episode of uwishunu’s popular Web TV series features a dramatic tour of Fairmount.

A mini-magazine inserted in alternative weeklies in New York, Baltimore, Boston, Providence and Washington D.C. this summer highlights (among others) the uwishunu.com blog posts about Logan Square’s Academy of Natural Sciences and Fairmount’s Eastern State Penitentiary and Bookhaven. These mini-magazines feature authentic Philly bloggers with their favorite insider revelations, as well as Philly artists’ renditions of blog post subjects from uwishunu.com.

Web TV:
In uwishunu’s first-ever Web TV series, engaged couple Audrey and Mark head to Eastern State Penitentiary in Fairmount for some old-fashioned prison romance. Who knew a Steve Buscemi audio tour in an abandoned correctional facility could be so sexy? Afterwards, it’s coffee at Mugshots, small plates at Rembrandt’s and chocolate-dipped soft-serve ice cream at Philly Flavors. The Web TV episodes air weekly on philebrity.tv and uwishunu.com.

uwishunu Blog:
Here’s what Logan Square and Art Museum area residents and visitors have written about on the site:

Logan Square:
  • Punk Rock bird watcher and uwishunu blogger Tony praises the lesser-known collections of fossils and specimens for scientific reference at The Academy of Natural Sciences in his Behind the Scenes blog post.
  • Gina suggests a trip to the Free Library’s Book Corner to Pick Up an Armload of Cheap Books that have been donated to the library but not put into circulation.
  • According to prolific blogger Tom, you can get Summer Peace at Logan Square because “at the end of a long bike ride, relentless work week or trip to the art museum, there’s the fountain at Logan Square.”

Art Museum Area/Fairmount:

  • In Didn’t You Hear? The New Sabrina’s is Open, Tom “can’t understand why there hasn’t been a total uproar about” Sabrina’s Café & Spencer’s Too, “a decidedly more grown-up counterpart to its airy South Philly sister.”
  • In her post Fun Fact: Money Can Buy You Anything? Gina swears “the acoustics will warp your mind” at the Whispering Benches in Fairmount Park, near Memorial Hall.
  • Blogger Tony promises the Bookhaven is one of the best used book spots in Philadelphia in Bury Your Nose in a New Used Book.
  • In If the Locked-up Eye Fits, Emily points readers to a small corner room on the second floor of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, to see “a collection of eye miniatures from the late 18th century.”
