NORTHEAST PHILLY HIGHLIGHTED IN PHILLY TOURISM CAMPAIGN
GPTMC Promotes Local Neighborhoods On uwishunu Blog And In Tourism Advertising

PHILADELPHIA, September 12, 2007 - Local favorites in Northeast Philadelphia are highlighted in uwishunu™ (as in “you wish you knew”), a tourism campaign created by the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC), funded by the City of Philadelphia and supported by City Councilpersons Brian O’Neill, Joan Krajewski, Frank DiCicco, Daniel J. Savage, Darrel L. Clarke and their colleagues to show off the city from the inside out. On the insider blog uwishunu.com, locals share under-the-radar scoop on cool things to do in their favorite neighborhoods. Favorites featured on the blog then reappear in uwishunu’s advertising.

A mini-magazine inserted into alternative weeklies in New York, Baltimore, Boston, Providence and Washington D.C. this summer highlights (among others) the blog post about The Grey Lodge Pub. These mini-magazines feature authentic Philly bloggers with their favorite insider revelations, as well as Philly artists’ renditions of blog post subjects from uwishunu.com.

uwishunu Blog:
Here’s what Northeast Philly residents and visitors have written about on the site:
  • In Making a Fuss Over Sweet Lucy’s Ribs, native Philadelphian Scoats explains how Sweet Lucy’s Smokehouse “graduated from the lunch truck into an 80-seat restaurant” serving pork ribs that “are deliciously sublime and wonderfully executed with a delicate touch.”
  • In the post entitled In Local Fiction: Tom Schied’s The Mustard Jar, Scoats extols The Mustard Jar by first-time novelist Tom Schied. In the book, “the people and places of Northeast Philly circa the 1980s seem right on target.”
  • Scoats posts again about a cool person from his beloved Northeast, Bicycle Tom. Thom Annunzio and his “ever-present bike” were fixtures at The Grey Lodge Pub from its early days until Thom’s recent passing.
  • Another fan of The Grey Lodge Pub, Mayfair resident Cathy tries to Get Lagered in Northeast Philly at this two-floor Frankford Avenue gem with an awesome juke box, decent grub and a beer selection that “rivals the offerings at Center City’s best bars.”
  • In Gag Me With a Human Face Stink Bug!, Beth posts about the Insectarium, an “entomological utopia in the Northeast” with roaches, tarantulas and all sorts of creepers and crawlers to make you squirm.
  • uwishunu reader Mike Hall submitted For a Warmer Day: Hike Up to Pennypack Park, where “huge meadows allowed me to climb trees, join a soccer game I’d been watching, and enjoy my picnic and take a nap in the sun and grass.”
  • In Monkey See, Monkey Like, Cathy raves about the offerings at Three Monkeys Cafe, “an adorably homey bar/restaurant that’s very Center City, but without the cosmopolitan price tags.” In the same post, she also pays homage to “the gloriously seasoned crab fries at Chickie’s & Pete’s” and “the pulled pork and tender ribs at Sweet Lucy’s.”
  • In Tony Pointless on Tony’s Place, the author waxes on about the “greatest pizza in Philly,” saying “the thin crust cheese-under the-sauce tomato pie is NE Philly indigenous cuisine.”
