Once home to the Western Hemisphere’s largest number of breweries, Philadelphia continues to sate drinkers’ desires with bars that serve not-so-typical pub grub. One not to miss is Standard Tap, a multi-room Northern Liberties "restaubar" that pairs local microbrews with excellent, gourmet pub fare like chicken pies, fried smelts and double burgers.
The first pub in Philadelphia to truly latch on hard to Philly's craft brewing upswing, Standard Tap has done nothing but grow since it opened its doors. The Tap's menu — largely responsible for said growth and a huge draw — is written daily on hanging chalkboards and coordinates perfectly with its selection of exclusively local brews.
The burgers are popular. But so are the mussels with sausage and grilled octopus.
And you can expect to find a diverse crowd at Standard Tap. It’s a casual place with which everyone — musicians, artists, hipsters, business people, locals and visitors — seems to fall in love.
Standard Tap's awesome beer selection invariably features selections from the following breweries: Yards (Philadelphia), Victory (Downingtown, Pennsylvania), Flying Fish (Cherry Hill, New Jersey), Troegs (Harrisburg, Pennsylvania), Stoudt's (Lancaster County), Sly Fox (Phoenixville and Royersford, Pennsylvania), Dogfish Head (Rehoboth Beach and Lewes, Delaware), Legacy Brewing (Reading, Pennsylvania), McKenzie Brewhouse (Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania), Weyerbacher (Easton, Pennsylvania), and Appalachian (Gettysburg and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania).
